During her "lipstick on a pitbull" speech, Republican candidate, Mrs Palin, suggested that American's presence in Iraq had divine blessing...

Recent articles in UK Press claim her governership of Alaska saw her promoting anti-abortion causes and pro-gun lobbying over everyday problems normally associated with her position.

She even sacked the local librarian for refusing in principle to ban certain books from her tiny library.

What do you feel about politicians who claim "God is on my side?"

Do you think it shows courage and conviction and purpose? Or should God be kept out of politics? Is evoking his name for your cause a kind of blasphemy?

Groland is funnyCool It can be more aggressive and shocking than English TV, it's hard to put your finger on it. Maybe it's because it's the first time I saw female breasts, naked, on a prime time comedy show.

No breasts in UK comedy.

As a native American, from an Evangelical family, I know from the inside how they think, and they can't help it. After marrying a French lady, and spending some 20 years in France, I am now a lot more open minded thanks to French critical thinking, and I can tell you if McCain is elected I sure hope the fellow lasts 4 years, 'cause I don't want no born-again Christian taking over in the White house.

(However if I have offended anyone, this is just a personal opinion.)

Hi, business angel and welcome to the forumSmile

Thank you very much for your post. I am not sure I understand some of it.

Are you a Native American? ( Indigenous people ) Or were you simply born in America? And do you want McCain to win, or not? Who is the born-again Christian?

Please post your personal opinion! It's not offensive at allWink

I'm a native American, who married a French girl. So I've lived in France for 20 years and taken on French citizenship too. I go back to the States about once a year, where my brothers, sister and parents live. My Grand father was a Baptist missionary to Africa in 1936, lived in a grass hut preaching the gospel to the central africans. My family is very religious, hence my knowledge of all the technical terms and meanings.

I was talking about Palin, regretting McCain's choice of vice president. He did it for political reasons, because he doesn't have the full support of the religious right, and that is his way of bringing them back in.  But McCain is an old man, if he wins and then dies, Palin would become president.

I can't say I was initially for one over the other. I like Obama, but he is just a lucky youngster who became Senator by chance, and has no experience of governing (governor or mayor). I tried reading one of his books, but it is apparent he wrote it too early and is just thinking out loud. But I often like what he has to say today. As for McCain my esteem for him has been going down since he took on Palin, and because his world view seems kind of old fashionned (see the last debate)

I hope that answers your questions.

"But McCain is an old man, if he wins and then dies"

Power has an amazing ability to preserve people. I can only think of one senior poltician who has died ( UK's John Smith ) after having acquired serious power. I think it vitalizes the biologyWink

Personally, I know the Election is very important - for America and the World. But I think the financial crisis will be seen to be of much greater importance. Whatever McCain Obama have said before must now be adapted to this new reality. America will be asking them to nurse them through both a crisis and a profound shift in the way they see themselves. Not an easy job.
