Another kid has gone into a school in Finland it seems, with a gun, and opened fire

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/finland/3065616/Many-feared-dead-at-school-shooting-in-Finland.htmlFrown

Why do kids do this? First it was America, and it looked like an American problem. Now Finland!!?!!

Finland is not famous for a gun culture!

Is it the influence of violence on TV? Or is it a more profound problem in modern society?

How can we try and solve this problem?

Actually, Finland is quite famous for its gun culture in a sense that they are allowed to buy guns as soon as they reach 15 !! in Europe it's shocking !!

that's why -to me-, to solve this pb , they need to reform their legislation ...

I think the persons who make that kind of killings must have a big psychologic problem. This initial problem has been reinforced by violence on TV.

Parents should take care about the TV programs which their children are watching at, even on the middle of the afternoon. Indeed, some series destinated for children or teenagers include scene of violence!

Parents should encourage their children to make some enjoying sport activities or other interesting activities they like to do. They should to try to spend more time with them even if they are busy, stressed by their work.

I play a lot of "violent "shooting games, and I make the difference between reality and fiction.

I agree with you Alison57 that this boy had big psychological problems, and I have the feeling that with or without watching violent programs he would have commit an act of violence.

I hope this act will not give ideas to other people

I agree with you Yann, violent TV programs or video games are not the cause of this problem. Indeed, like you, lot of people watch or play this kinds of programs or games with much weapons and blood.

According to me, the society in which we live is responsible: there are much stress, lots of inequalities and injustices, misery and unemployment and peolple don't communicate between us. So children and particulary adolescents are frustrated because it's difficult for us to find a place in this society and the future is uncertain. Society and adults don't give them  enought points of reference and young people are completly lost.

And when an adolescent can get a weapon, he uses it to show he exists by shooting people. Because of television is a very good means of communication and talks to the whole society, he acts to pass at the TV and to say: look, look what you make of young people!
