Hi,

Sometimes in books women are refered to as the wicked witch of the west, and I would like to know where it comes from, since it seems to be a cultural thing?

Hi Corail,

The Wicked Witch of the West is a character in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz:  she is the evil character in the book. It is usually used to describe a woman not liked by the person speaking.

In French (la méchante sorcière de l'Ouest), the translation is not as colorful!

I wouldn't have recognized it! I haven't seen the movie since I was a child.
