Hi Pamplemousse,

 In fact sometimes it's singular and sometimes it's plural. It depends what the word couple is referring to in your sentence.
 If it is used in the sense of two people (two individuals) it is a collective noun and is therefore plural.
example ;
The couple were married on Saturday and left Sunday for a honeymoon.  They will return in two weeks.
But, if it refers to a single unit, or a single entity it is singular.
example;
The winning couple has one week to collect their prize.

Have a nice day !
