Montmartre struggles to preserve its heritage amid mass tourism

It is famed for its steep, cobbled streets, cabarets, culture and artistic roots. But with some 12 million visitors every year and soaring rents forcing many locals out, it is struggling to preserve its heritage amid mass tourism.

This Montmartre house perched on the side of the butte has been welcoming lovers of traditional French songs for more than 150 years. Some travel great distances to spend the evening at the last cabaret of its kind in the neighbourhood.
